sledding on a tarp.
well. i haven't been on lately so, here it goes...

breakfast. at roxies in freemont. perfect. we discussed the fact that if stacey were to work there she would need a tattoo or piercing of some kind...

my thoughts on the snow: it brings people together. isn't it weird that in the face of horrid weather, people find common ground? see each other. talk to each other. help each other. i find it intriguing that when things get worse, we start to see humanity rising above it all. it is as if people need a push. our normal, everyday lives don't move us enough to step outside of ourselves. when we see others stuck, we have compassion. i have seen so many people getting out of their cars to help others out of the snow. so many conversations sparked by the light of this flaky white stuff falling from the sky. perhaps it is just the shock of it all. perhaps i am just imagining it all. but perhaps this is just the shock we need. a shock to bring us face to face with each other. to help us SEE our neighbor. to help us STOP our busy lives and realize there are more important things. i relish times like these. i want to always know what it means to live; to know why i am here. i guess all i am saying is it is nice to have the reminder. it might be annoying and inconvenient, but maybe we need that force to help save ourselves. maybe in the act of helping the other, we are being helped.

sorry if this isn't enough about breakfast/food.

Silence-Heart-Nest

Friends,

You have been so patient. Our profuse apologies for the delay. Blogging, as many of you know, is difficult stuff! No excuses. We're back.

And we ate breakfast at the greatest place! Silence-Heart-Nest in Fremont is on 36th and Phinney in the same building complex as Taco Del Mar. And, oh Lord, do you need to go there! The best way to describe this place is East Indian meets Traditional American meets Seattle Vegitarian. And someone must have informed its owners about the soothing efffects of the color blue, because the whole place is painted in it! And, oh, did we feel soothed.

The food was great- all vegetarian, but full of flavor and very hearty. The coffee was Cafe Vita, so life-changing, to say the least. The service was very prompt and friendly, but not over zealous... "How was that last bite you took?" But I think the best part about Silence-Heart-Nest is that you've never eaten at a place quite like it. Here's a quote from their website: "Silence-Heart-Nest is a name given to us by spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy. Because of his inspiration, we strive to offer our customers delicious food that satisfies both inwardly and outwardly, combined with a peaceful atmosphere." Mission: accomplished.

As to the topic of conversation, I think the atmosphere had Lindsey and me in an existential mood. The question posed was something like this: How much good can we hope for in life without setting ourselves up for disappointment? Is it better to be ignorantly optimistic, or realistically cynical? Probably the first one, huh. Otherwise you would have no friends.

Well, I guess it's just a question for the ages. Luckily, phrases printed on the sugar packets at Silence-Heart-Nest had some encouragement to offer us:

"To live in joy is to live the inner life. This is the life that leads to self-realisation." Yeah... that. I want that.

Macrina; Forgiveness.

Dear loyal readers,

Thank you for your patience since our last post three minutes ago.  Moving on...

We felt that it was only fitting to begin this blog with what has become our favorite breakfast joint: Macrina.  Specifically, the Macrina on Queen Anne.  Lauren Hill was playing on the stereo when we walked in.  What more could a person ask for?  Oh yes, great coffee, food, service, and atmosphere!  And Macrina always delivers.

Lindsey enjoyed a warm bowl of oat meal with all the fixin's (brown sugar, slivered almonds, stewed fruit of unspecified variety, and a small pitcher of steamed whole milk).  This is the Cadillac of oatmeals.  So good, so filling, if we may invent a term, it would be "foodgasmic."  However, Lindsey couldn't finish it.  Come extremely hungry if you ever plan to order it!

Stacey decided on the bowl of fruit, yogurt, and granola.  Yet again, foodgasmic.  This fresh, cold fruit combined sweet, creamy yogurt and topped with crunchy homemade granola is a perfect blend of flavors, and textures.  Also it helps to know that your body will still love you afterwards.

As always, the coffee was hot and full of flavor, the foam smooth and velvety, the service friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere cozy and inviting.  We never feel rushed at Macrina, which makes it the ideal place to discuss the joys and pains of life...

Topic of the day: Forgiveness.

First, a brief update.  This may or may not have been a difficult summer for both Lindsey and Stacey... actually probably yes, yes it was.  In fact circumstances lent themselves well to frequent breakfasts out, which is  why this blog exists.

Today, we have come to a point in our process where forgiveness is a necessary evil... like flossing.  We have learned we must let go of certain things, and to do so, we must forgive.  We have chosen to take the advice of a wise woman--you guessed it--Oprah, who said on her show this week that forgiveness is less about the person who wronged you, and more about you finding peace.

Coincidentally, Stacey has been reading "The Shack" by William Paul Young, in which the main character is asked by God to forgive the man who abducted his daughter.  He learns that forgiving someone does not mean to admit that they were right or to excuse what they did, but simply to "let go of their neck" and be freed of the burden.

What does all this have to do with our breakfast?  Well, nothing really.  Hopefully in future posts, we'll find some clarity.  For now, enjoy the weather.

Love love!

Stacey and Lindsey

The first post in the history of the world (okay, maybe just ours)

Friends, lovers (well, not really lovers), and acquaintances.

We are all a part of this great inter-web. A web that brings many thoughts and ideas together. Just like a scramble. As most know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That is why this blog has been made. Not only can two join to enjoy the yumminess of good eats but they can also enjoy great discourse. The Seattle Scramble is the worlds first and only blog dedicated to informing you of these two wonders.

Stay tuned to hear about where Stacey and Lindsey eat next.

Love love,

Linds and Stace
