Blue Star

This is Blue Star Cafe.

This is my best approximation of whatever Lindsey ordered for breakfast there. It goes by the name "Tofu Scramble." (Imagine the image above, but replace that natural yellow with a neon yellow-green.) I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank the LORD that I am not a vegan.
Linds and I were under the impression that the scramble would be made of eggs and include tofu pieces. Untrue. It consists of grated tofu died radioactive yellow, sauteed with vegetables and veggie sausage. Eh well... you live and learn, right?
Another post to come soon, but I just wanted to warn you all now before you order this dish.
Love,
Stacey

Vera's!

Lindsey and I took the advice of our new friend, Jake, and decided to try Vera's in Ballard. It's just off Market on 22nd, across from the Scandinavian flags. (New picture above was taken at Veras).

Friends, this is what breakfast out is all about. Nothin fancy, just good, honest breakfast fare. We split a Denver Omelette and each drank enough diner java to fill an olympic size pool. We had the morning off, so we took our sweet time and pondered the mysteries of life for about two hours. It was glorious.

It's cash only, so come prepared. Also, brace yourself for the nicest, chattiest waiters and waitresses ever. They'll refill your coffee, and offer you valuable advice on any subject. In my mind, a breakfast joint in successful when it makes it's customers feel like they've been coming for years. And we did.

I gained many insights during my breakfast at Veras, but the best one was this: I want to make breakfast my career. I always thought it odd that I had such a deep passion for it, but passions arise for a reason, right? They give us something to pursue single-mindedly. Some practice medicine, some compose symphonies. I am meant to make breakfast.

Honestly, if I could have any job in the entire world, it would be to own a bed and breakfast or maybe a little cafe. Whatever it is, it will serve the best breakfast you've ever had, mark my words. I want to feed people. And make them feel at home and at ease. I want to learn their names and ask how their families are. I want to be there when they start their days and remind them that life isn't all bad...in fact, it's quite lovely.

Come along, Linds. Be my business partner. And the rest of you, be my clientel.
